HEROSAN Raises Funding as Insect-Based Pet Nutrition Expands

Sep 13, 2026

Austrian petcare company HEROSAN Petcare GmbH has launched a crowdfunding campaign of up to €1.5 million as it seeks to expand its business around alternative pet nutrition based on insect protein and mushroom-derived ingredients.

The campaign opened on September 8 through Invesdor. Rather than selling equity, HEROSAN is offering investors corporate bonds with a fixed annual interest rate of 9%, a five-year term and a minimum investment of €250. The company has not announced that the full €1.5 million has been raised; the figure represents the maximum issue size of the campaign.

The financing comes as HEROSAN reports strong recent growth. Revenue reached €2.3 million in the first half of 2026, up 64% year on year, according to the company. With support from parent group REPLOID, HEROSAN has also expanded sales activities in Switzerland and Italy.

HEROSAN's product portfolio includes entoVITAL, an insect-based pet food range for dogs and cats, and fungoVITAL, a vegetarian dog food concept combining fermentation-based bacterial protein with medicinal mushrooms and fungal mycelium. The company develops its nutrition products with a focus on pets with allergies and food intolerances.

The company's development is closely connected with REPLOID's investment strategy. In June 2026, REPLOID increased its stake in HEROSAN from 34% to more than 50%, while also providing access to insect larvae and mushroom-related raw materials through its group structure.

For international pet industry businesses, HEROSAN provides an example of how alternative proteins are moving beyond ingredient development into branded pet food. The combination of specialized nutrition, vertically linked raw-material supply and expansion into additional European markets could be relevant to ingredient suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers following the development of next-generation pet food.
