HenArt Launches LEVENDO Dog Food with Enifer Mycoprotein

Dutch pet food company HenArt has launched LEVENDO, a baked, semi-moist complete dog food featuring PEKILO mycoprotein from Finnish biotechnology company Enifer. The product targets adult and senior dogs and marks the ingredient’s first international consumer launch.

HenArt developed the recipe around its proprietary blend of fermentation-derived proteins, while established European manufacturers handle production. LEVENDO is formulated according to the European Pet Food Industry Federation’s (FEDIAF) nutritional guidelines for a complete and balanced everyday diet.

According to Enifer, PEKILO is a fungal protein ingredient containing all essential amino acids. A 60-day canine feeding study reported high digestibility and palatability, with no negative impact on stool quality. The company also reported preliminary signs of potential immune-support benefits, which require careful interpretation and should not be treated as established clinical outcomes.

LEVENDO is available through HenArt’s online store and specialist distribution partners across Europe and the United Kingdom. HenArt is also pursuing wider distribution through national pet retail chains, online retailers and grocery partners.

The launch comes as Enifer commissions a PEKILO production facility designed for 3,000 tonnes annually, with full-scale production planned for 2027.

For pet food manufacturers and ingredient buyers, the launch provides a practical example of fermentation-derived protein entering a complete commercial diet. Future opportunities will depend on consistent ingredient supply, competitive costs, nutritional performance and consumer acceptance.
