Japanese food group Umios Corporation is expanding its pet food business in Southeast Asia through investments in Malaysian manufacturer Pet World International (PWI) and Thai food producer Pataya Food Group (PFG).
On October 1, 2026, Umios and Malaysia’s Wah Kong Corporation completed a strategic joint venture centred on PWI. Umios invested approximately ¥11.4 billion to acquire a 51% stake in the Malaysian pet food business through a newly established holding company.
PWI manufactures dry dog and cat food across value and premium segments. The investment gives Umios a stronger position in Malaysia and adds to its existing pet food operations in Japan and Thailand.
In Thailand, Umios announced a separate strategic investment in PFG, acquiring a 25.1% stake. PFG manufactures seafood products and pet food, including products sold under its Regalos and Remy brands. The partnership is intended to combine PFG’s manufacturing, brands and sales channels with Umios’ international network.
Together, the investments broaden Umios’ presence across Southeast Asia and strengthen its access to both dry and wet pet food capabilities. For international buyers and distributors, the developments are worth watching as the group coordinates its products and regional sales networks. However, further export agreements, product launches and supplier opportunities have not been confirmed.
