United Petfood Signs Agreement to Acquire Wellness Pet’s Arkansas Plant

Belgian private-label pet food manufacturer United Petfood has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a dry pet food production facility in Decatur, Arkansas, from Wellness Pet Company. The companies have also entered into a long-term supply agreement as part of the transaction.

The Decatur facility is expected to become United Petfood’s third production site in North America, following its facilities in Mishawaka, Indiana, and Drummondville, Quebec. The company said the additional site will increase production capacity and flexibility as it expands its local manufacturing footprint in the region.

United Petfood entered the U.S. manufacturing market in 2024, when it acquired a Wellness Pet production facility in Mishawaka. At the time, Wellness said it had acquired the substantially larger Decatur facility in 2022 to support its own growth.

The latest transaction continues United Petfood’s broader North American expansion. In April 2026, the company acquired the Jupiter dry pet food production facility in Drummondville, Quebec, marking its first dry manufacturing plant in Canada.

Dries Eeckhout, CEO of United Petfood Group, said the Decatur site would provide additional capacity and flexibility while allowing the company to combine local production with the capabilities of its international manufacturing network.

For international pet food brands and buyers, the development highlights the growing importance of regional manufacturing capacity in private-label supply chains. United Petfood currently operates production facilities across multiple countries and exports to more than 110 markets, according to company information.

Financial terms of the transaction and its expected closing date have not been disclosed. Therefore, the acquisition should currently be described as an agreement to acquire, rather than a completed transaction.
