Dec 3, 2018
Spanish pet owners spend 1 260 euros per year on average on each of their pets. This equates to a 5.21 per cent increase on last year (1 198 euros). Spending on pet food and veterinary services in particular has risen, whereas the amount spent on accessory products has declined.

In 2017, Spaniards spent 780 euros per annum on pet food; this figure increased to 823.80 euros in 2018 (+5.62 per cent). Expenditure on veterinary services rose from 332 euros to 353.56 euros (+6.5 per cent) annually. Less was spent on accessories, with the outlay on these falling by 3.48 per cent from 86 euros to 83 euros.

The figures were revealed by a study commissioned by the Tiendanimal pet store chain. Around 3 400 people took part in the survey.
