Nestl¨¦ seeks to acquire Champion Petfoods

Jul 7, 2018
Nestlé Purina PetCare is seeking to acquire a majority holding in Canadian premium pet food manufacturer Champion Petfoods, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing people involved in the deal. Two billion dollars has been reported as the possible purchase price. Whether the deal will actually go through is as yet unclear, according to the paper.

Based in Edmonton, Champion Petfoods has become a global player in the pet food market within just a few years with its premium brands Orijen and Acana. The company, which is owned inter alia by the investment company Bedford Capital, currently delivers to 80 countries and focuses on products made from naturally sourced ingredients from the region.

Nestlé Purina PetCare has swallowed up a number of pet food manufacturing companies in the USA and Europe in the last few years, thereby further strengthening its position in the global market. Its acquisitions include Terra Canis as well as innovative start-ups such as Tails.com.
