Born in 1922, Enrico Riccardo Morando was a man of character and a life force that is today hard to find. He celebrated his 95th birthday on 29th October.
A leading figure in a fast-growing sector, a man of great intuition and wisdom, the legacy of his farming origins of which he was extremely proud, Enrico Morando founded and directed with his family the company that bore his name, Morando S.p.A. As he would tell anyone who would listen, in the 1950s returning from a trip to Marseille, his curiosity was piqued by an advertisement for pet food. With obstinacy and determination he introduced dog and cat food production to Italy– something that until then was unheard of – challenging public institutions and bureaucratic hurdles. In a very short time, thanks to his entrepreneurial abilities he set up and developed a number of productive sites, successfully paving the way to an, as yet, unexplored market.
Enrico Morando hands over the reins to his sons Giovanni and Walter, the managing directors of the company, and his grandchildren, Franco and Laura, who have been present every day in the company for the past ten years and who have helped him continue the family tradition. A dynamic, 100% Italian company, and one of the most modern in Europe with state of the art technology, it was established to offer an innovative, high-quality product under the Migliorcane and Migliorgatto - Miocane and Miogatto brands.
Enrico Morando was also a pioneer of the rediscovery of the native vine, Ruchè, which he immediately fell in love with, and in which he believed and invested bringing Montalbera, a wine-making company in Castagnole Monferrato purchased in 1982, to being considered the main interpreter on the national and international market.
His funeral was celebrated in private as he had wished and his family warmly remembered the man, father and grandfather, as well as the entrepreneur who started up the pet food industry in Italy.
